Rema wins first ever Best Afrobeats category at the 2023 VMAs.

Since his emergence, Rema has strutted through global dominance with a huge contribution to the propagation of African music. His hit, “Calm Down” with Selena Gomez, which recently became the first Afrobeats song to surpass a billion streams on Spotify, has just won the MTV Video Music Award for the first ever Beat Afrobeats category, beating Burna boy, Wizkid, Ayra Starr and Davido to the award. Rema now joins Wizkid as the only Afrobeats artistes to have won this award.

Harry Toffolo suspended and banned for breaching betting rules.

After Ivan Toney, Nottingham City’s defender, Harry Toffolo has now been punished for breaching betting related regulations. The left back was charged in July on 375 different charges by the Football Association. With the necessary investigations now completed, the 28 years old defender, who admitted to have breached these gambling regulations between 2014 and 2017, has been found guilty of these charges and as such, the England football authorities have banned him for five months, whilst also charging him a fine of up to £21,000. His ban is however suspended until the end of the 2024-2025 Premier League season.

MohBad’s “Blessed EP” peaks at no.1 spot on Apple Music after his death.

Nigerian entertainment industry was thrown into a state of shock after the confirmation of MohBad’s sudden death. The 27 year old singer and rapper was a huge representative of Nigerian music, a hit maker with immense potential. Since his death, his recently released project, “Blessed EP” has peaked on numerous streaming platforms for the first time since its release. The EP is presently the number one album on Apple Music Nigeria and has now debuted on UK and Ireland Apple Music charts. Despite rumors, the cause of his death remains unconfirmed.

Fernando Santos has been sacked by Poland effective immediately.

Fernando Santos has been fired from his role as Poland’s coach with immediate effect, less than a year after he was hired. Santos, who led Portugal to European championship in 2016, has not been able to replicate this form with Poland, who sits fourth in the Group E of the Euros qualifiers. Despite efforts from star player, Robert Lewandowski, Poland has lost three of its five games in the qualifiers and are now behind Albania, Czech Republic and Moldova in the group standings. They are now in contention for the Euro 2024 qualifying playoffs which is set to hold in March.

Marco Verratti joins Al Arabi from Paris Saint German in €45 million deal.

After eleven years with French giant, Paris Saint German, Marco Verratti has now signed a three year deal with Qatari side, Al Arabi in a deal reportedly worth €45 million. The Italy midfielder, who is regarded as one of the best players in his position, has had a career immensely ridden by injuries. Having won nine Ligue 1 titles with PSG, the 30 years old midfielder has now joined Lionel Messi and Neymar to depart from the club, after reports that he is not in new coach, Luis Enrique’s plans.
