Ade Adebayo weighs in on the “pave way” narrative in the Nigerian music industry.
The news around older artists paving way for new artists have been one of the biggest narratives within the Afrobeats scene. Music enthusiast, Ade Adebayo has however just weighed in on the trending narrative. After Burna Boy, ODUMODUBLVCK also took to X to indicate that nobody paved the way for him. Opposing this stance, Adebayo has insisted that without a doubt, older generations paved way for the next generation of artists, noting that pride, ego and a lack of appreciation of history are the major reasons fuelling that opinion.
"Indeed, people paved the way for you…It is just pride, ego, and a lack of appreciation of history that makes artistes say things like 'nobody paved the way for them'"
