Dune: Part Two disqualified from consideration for the 2024 Academy Awards.
Hans Zimmer’s score for Dune: Part Two has been officially disqualified from consideration for the 2024 Academy Awards, as confirmed by Variety. The score is also ineligible for the BAFTA Awards, though it remains eligible for the Critics Choice and Golden Globe Awards. The disqualification stems from the Academy’s rule limiting the use of pre-existing music in scores for sequels and franchises. Under this rule, no more than 20% of a score can consist of reused themes or music from previous installments. Zimmer’s score for Dune: Part Two incorporates significant elements from his work on the first Dune film, released in 2021, exceeding the allowed threshold. Warner Bros. had officially submitted the score in hopes it would qualify, but it was ultimately deemed ineligible. Oscar shortlist voting begins Monday, with the final shortlist set to be announced on December 17.

Prime Video has released the first teaser and confirmed a March 13 global premiere date for Season 3 of The Wheel of Time. The announcement came during the show’s panel at CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil. Divisions within the White Tower, the rise of the Black Ajah, and the remaining Forsaken hunting Rand add new layers of danger. Based on Robert Jordan’s best-selling series, the fantasy epic is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television. Rafe Judkins serves as showrunner. The cast includes Daniel Henney, Zoë Robins, Marcus Rutherford, and Natasha O’Keeffe, among others, as the characters grapple with growing threats and Rand’s increasingly unstable power.

Paul Mescal turns Gladiator 2 into a musical in the latest SNL episode.
In the latest Saturday Night Live episode, Paul Mescal turned Gladiator 2 into a musical, hosting the show for the first time. Joining him was debuting singer-songwriter, Shaboozey. One memorable sketch parodied Gladiator 2 with a musical twist, inspired by the success of Wicked. The sketch featured a trailer for the film with “50 extra minutes” of musical content, where Mescal sang about being misunderstood as a gladiator: “They don’t know that far below I’m so much more.” The musical opened with Kenan Thompson singing “No Place Like Rome,” with Mescal eagerly agreeing. Mikey Day played Rome’s emperor, rapping a song written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, humorously singing, “I don’t mean to be a hater, but I don’t like this gladiator.” The sketch concluded with Mescal flying away from the Colosseum on a broom, parodying Wicked’s iconic “Defying Gravity.”
