Germany crowned FIBA World Cup champions, as Canada claims bronze.

The FIBA 2023 World Cup tournament has finally come to an end, with Germany being crowned the world champions for the first time in history. Capping off an unbeaten run, Dennis Schroder and Franz Wagner led Germany to a 83-77 win over Serbia, scoring 28 and 19 points respectively. Germany becomes the fifth consecutive team to have won the FIBA World Cup with an unbeaten run. Also in the fight for third place, Dillion Brooks led Canada to a much needed 127-118 overtime win over USA to claim bronze at the competition.

Strickland defeats Israel Adesanya to claim UFC Middleweight title.

Sean Strickland has stunned Israel Adesanya to become the new UFC Middleweight champion. Pulling off a huge upset, the American fighter was immensely solid. winning by points (49-46) across all the scoreboards. Despite the match being close, Strickland was consistent with his attacks and general game plan from the first round. Always a step ahead of the New Zealander (Adesanya), he was able to secure the win in the end. UFC President, Dana White has however disclosed that Adesanya will get a rematch against Strickland.

Manchester United and Antony mutually agree on period of absence.

Manchester United forward, Antony has been subjected to allegations of physical violence and abuse by three women, including his ex-girlfriend. Whilst investigations are presently ongoing, the Man United management have just confirmed mutual agreement with Antony on a period of absence, pending the completion of the investigation. In an earlier statement, the team had condemned any form of physical violence and abuse and Antony has also reiterated his innocence against the allegations leveled against him.

Germany has finally sacked the national team head coach, Hansi Flick.

After a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Japan, Germany has finally sacked its head coach, Hansi Flick. Despite the wide river of talents, the team has been overly underperforming, especially since the 2022 World Cup. While they prepare to host the 2024 European Championships, it has become necessary to ensure a change in management. The German soccer federation has however decided that the team’s director, Rudi Völler, as well as two others will be taking charge of the friendly against France, whilst a replacement is being worked on.

Osimhen scores hat trick as Nigeria demolishes São Tomé in Uyo.

Big thanks to Victor Osimhen’s hat trick, Nigeria trumped São Tomé by six goals to nil to further extend their lead at the top of their AFCON qualifying group. Recall Nigeria had earlier bashed them by ten goals to nil in the reverse game. With this win however, they have cemented their place at the top of the table ahead of the 2024 African Cup of Nations to be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire. Osimhen’s hat trick means he has now scored 20 goals for Nigeria in 26 appearances. Fellow Seria A players, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman and Nottingham Forest’s striker, Taiwo Awoniyi were all also on the scoresheet.
