The Super Eagles have commenced their World Cup qualifiers campaign with two consecutive draws, recording a 1-1 draw against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in their opening two games. Zimbabwe went ahead in the 26th minute, with Frank Uzoho unable to keep out Walter Musona’s 30 yard free kick. Nigeria and Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho responded in the 67th minute with a crucial finish. Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup tournament and with two points in the opening two games in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, concerns regarding the José Peseiro’s tactics are being raised with many Nigerians calling for the National team head coach to be sacked.

Benjamin Mendy sues Manchester City over claims of unpaid wages.

Former France and Manchester City fullback, Benjamin Mendy is set to sue his former club over claims of “unauthorized deduction of wages” while being tried for rape and sexual assault cases in 2021. Mendy was suspended from football for the two year span where he faced a double trial for six count charges of rage and one count charge of sexual assault against four women, all of which he was found not guilty and acquitted. Reports are indicating that the current FC Lorient defender is demanding for his unpaid wages. Manchester City is yet to release a statement to address this situation.

The global domination of the Afrobeats genre has been better punctuated by the increased numbers, chart presence and global awards. The recent acclaim of Afrobeats has led to the genre being included with more categories at some of the biggest award shows like the Grammys and Billboard music awards. Nigerian duo, Burna Boy and Rema are the latest recipients of the prestigious Billboard music awards. Both artists dominated the global scene with their hit songs and while Burna Boy won the Top Afrobeats category, Rema took home the inaugural top Afrobeats song award for his hit single, “Calm Down”.
