Netflix to cancel popular adaptation, The Sandman after its second season.
The Sandman, one of Netflix’s popular adaptations will conclude with its upcoming second season. The series, based on Neil Gaiman’s DC comics, premiered in August 2022 but wasn’t renewed until November of that year. At the time, Netflix avoided calling it a second season, instead referring to it as “a continuation of The Sandman world.” Variety reports that the decision to end the show was made before filming began. This news follows multiple sexual misconduct allegations against Gaiman, first reported in July 2024. However, sources claim the decision to conclude the show was already in place before these allegations emerged. Gaiman has since departed Amazon’s Good Omens, while Disney halted development on The Graveyard Book adaptation. His Coraline musical was also scrapped. Season 2 will adapt Season of Mists, in which Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie) relinquishes control of Hell, leaving Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) with the key, sparking a struggle among various immortals.
