Wizkid becomes the first Nigerian artist to surpass 7 billion Spotify streams.
Arguably the biggest African artist of all time, Wizkid’s strides are so self evident. Whether as a single entity or as a collective, he has always been present in every conversation which involves propelling African music on a global scale. He has just surpassed 7 billion total streams on Spotify, making history as the first ever Nigerian artist to cross this milestone. His hit collaboration with Drake, “One Dance” is his most streamed song on the platform with over three billion streams. With the globalization of African music, many African artists have experienced huge success in their streaming tractions and this will only continue to grow.

Birdman destroys any hope for a Cash Money, Young among reunion.
New Orleans was buzzing on Friday night, as Lil Wayne treated fans to a set of his hit records at the Essence Festival. This however took a surprising turn after Wayne failed to step out for Birdman’s highly anticipated Cash Money Records reunion set, causing major disappointment among fans. The reunion which featured some of the biggest stars on the label like BG and Juvenile, missed appearances from Lil Wayne and Turk, with rumours suggesting that Wayne failed to participate in the reunion without Turks. Birdman however took subtle shots at the legendary rapper, saying, “I would never let my city down and be a p*ssy *ss n*gag for anybody”. He also trashed any hope that Lil Wayne would headline the Super Bowl this year in New Orleans, noting that “Doja Cat got the headline.”
