Victor Osimhen makes history with recent Ballon d’Or ranking.
Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen has been one of Europe’s finest strikers over the last season. With 31 goals across Series A and the Champions league in the 2022/2023 season, he spearheaded Napoli’s first Scudetto in 33 years. In the just concluded Ballon d’Or ceremony, the Napoli striker finished eight position in the thirty-man shortlist, making him the eight best player in the world for the 2022/2023 season. Osimhen has now etched his name in the history books as the first Nigerian to make the top ten in the Ballon d’Or shortlist.

Afro Nation announces cancellation of its December festival in Lagos.
Afro Nation has been one of Afrobeats’ greatest global exports with festivals across America and Europe. Last month, the organizers announced that the festival would make a debut in Lagos. In a bid to celebrate the Afrobeats genre at its base, a top tier line-up was announced including Burna Boy, J Hus and Flavour. However, the highly anticipated show which was scheduled for December 19 and 20, has now been cancelled on the basis of delivering a quality show that the audience deserves.

The 2023 Ballon d’Or was held on Monday in Paris to celebrate the most remarkable players for the 2022/2023 season. Lionel Messi beat PSG’s Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland to win his eight Ballon d’Or for his immense contribution to Argentina’s World Cup campaign. Real Madrid duo, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior also won the 2023 Ballon d’Or Kopa Trophy and Socrates Award, as the best young player in the world and for humanitarian services respectively. Aston Villa goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez also won the Yashin Trophy, as the best goalkeeper in the world for his World Cup heroics with Argentina. Spain and Barcelona Femeni player, Aitana Bonmati won the Women’s Ballon d’Or.

The Philadelphia 76ers agree to trade James Harden to the L.A Clippers.
New reports from Monday night have indicated that the Philadelphia 76ers would be trading James Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers. The 10-time All Stars point guard had requested a trade away from the Sixers on June 29, two days before the start of free agency and while there were no indications of a trade deal, Harden failed to turn up to the team’s preseason training camp. The 76ers will send James Harden, P.J Tucker and Filip Petrusev to the Clippers and will receive Marcus Morris, Robert Covington, Nic Batum, KJ Martin, a 2028 unprotected first-round pick, two second-round picks and a 2029 pick swap.
