Tyla and Tems win big at the just concluded BET Awards 2024.

The female African artists held the continent down on Sunday night at the 2024 BET Awards. While the likes of Burna Boy, Davido, Lojay, Seyi Vibez and Ayra Starr lost their respective nominations, Tyla and Tems did make the continent proud. Tyla, after a superb year and a beautiful self-named album, won the Best International Act, her second BET award. Tems’ hit single, “Me & U” also won the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational award, bringing her total BET awards to four. She joins Burna Boy and Wizkid as the African artists with the most BET awards.

Burna Boy performs at Glastonbury Festival after a sold out London Stadium show.

One night after making history as the first African artist to sell out the 80k capacity London Stadium, Burna Boy set the Glastonbury stage on fire, thrilling fans with another beautiful performance at the Festival. While there were a plethora of memorable moments, the African Giant commanding both male and females to strip during the performance of his hit song, “Ye” was the most memorable. After the performance, the hitmaker revealed he had been unwell but still had to put up a show for his fans and many have taken to social media to laud his utmost dedication to his art.

Beyoncé congratulates Blue Ivy as she wins the BET YoungStar award.

Blue Ivy continued to hold her place as the youngest BET award winner. The event which was held at the Peacock Theatre, Los Angeles, saw Blue Ivy win the YoungStar award, an award for young entertainers who have had immense impact in sports, entertainment, music or film. Blue Ivy was nominated along with Akira Akbar, Demi singleton, Heiress Diana Harris, JaBria McCallum, Jayln Hall, Leah Jeffries and the amazing 5 year-old rapper, Van Van, who performed at the event. Blue Ivy’s mother, Beyoncé shared a post congratulating the young star on Instagram via her Parkwood Entertainment account.

Rick Ross and his crew attacked after a festival in Vancouver.

Legendary hip hop rapper, Rick Ross ran into some issues with some alleged OVO goons after his headline performance at the Canadian Music Showcase on Sunday evening. In a viral video, Ross and his crew were making their way through a crowd while Kendrick Lamar’s popular diss record to Drake, “Not Like Us” was being played, causing great tension between Rick Ross’ team and the alleged goons. After a verbal exchange, one of the goons reach out and punched Ross’ face as the attackers chanted, “you in our city, what the fuck is up?” Soon, Rick Ross took to his Instagram story to laugh off the incident.

Denzel Washington and Joseph Quinn to star in the upcoming “Gladiator 2”.

Paramount Pictures are in fact working on a sequel for acclaimed film, “Gladiator” and Vanity Fair has just released some new first look photos of the upcoming film featuring Denzel Washington, who plays a former slave who becomes a wealthy merchant and hates emperors. Other cast members include Joseph Quinn who plays co-emperor Caracalla, Pedro Pascal, a military commander turned gladiator as a punishment and Paul Mescal, who plays Lucius. The film which is being directed by Ridley Scott, is scheduled to be released in theatres on November 22 and is definitely a must-watch.
