Army donates school facilities to Kano state

As the Education sector strives to create an optimal learning environment, the Nigerian Army has contributed to enhancing education in Kano State. This was achieved by donating a newly built four-block classroom facility to Datti Ahmad Government Secondary School in the Wurure district of Gwale Local Government Area. This action was implemented as part of the Special Intervention Programme led by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), designed to assist communities that have benefited from the significant efforts of serving senior military personnel in protecting the country.

Alongside the classroom structures, the Nigerian Army upgraded an office facility on the school grounds and supplied 216 sets of classroom furniture. This effort is part of the Nigerian Army’s dedication to encouraging civil-military relations and enhancing connections with nearby communities while actively supporting their academic progress. The remodelled classrooms were officially handed over during a ceremony held on Saturday in Kano. Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, underscored the significance of this initiative in promoting positive civil-military relations.

Lagbaja assures the program will combat insecurity by promoting education.

Although he could not attend the event in person, he was represented by Maj.-Gen. Nosakhare Ugbo, the Army Chief of Civil-Military Affairs. During the proceedings, Maj.-Gen. Shared remarks on behalf of Lagbaja. Ugbo emphasised the initiative’s dual advantages, enhancing academic opportunities while reinforcing the connection between the armed forces and the communities they support. Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja stated that the initiative was designed to benefit nearby communities, especially those home by high-ranking Security personnel who have attained the rank of Major General through their dedication to the nation.

The recently built classrooms and refurbished office block will improve the academic setting at Datti Ahmad Government Secondary School. Lagbaja pointed out that the program also tackles wider concerns like Insecurity by promoting safety and Empowerment through education. These initiatives will subsequently enhance military members’ spirits in those areas. In his address, Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja recognised President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering backing and expressed gratitude for the president’s trust in the Nigerian Security Agencies and the Armed Forces. He assured of their ongoing fidelity and dedication to the country’s leadership.

Senior officers emphasise the Army’s role in improving academics.

Major General Sani Bashir, the head of Defence Communication, was instrumental in advancing the project and outlined the reasons for selecting Datti Ahmad Government Secondary School for the initiative. He emphasised that the decision was influenced by the urgent necessity to create an encouraging and supportive academic setting, especially for young people, who embody the country’s future. He stressed that quality learning is the foundation of a nation’s progress, and initiatives like this play a crucial role in creating an environment conducive to intellectual development.

By offering contemporary facilities and necessary academic resources, the military is broadening its function beyond mere protection, actively participating in initiatives to enhance nearby communities’ welfare. Maj.-Gen. Bashir conveyed optimism that this initiative will serve as a stimulus, motivating teachers and learners to excel and reach greater academic heights. He elaborated that the initiative embodies the security agency’s dedication to its Corporate Social Responsibility and aligns with the Kano State Government’s wider goals to revitalise the institutional system. Brigadier General Teminere Mackintosh, who leads the 26 Armoured Brigade, was present and commended Lieutenant General Lagbaja for supporting the initiative financially.
