In a ground-breaking move, Nigeria’s Kebbi State Government has embarked on a revolutionary endeavour to provide comprehensive training to 2,400 primary school teachers, marking a pivotal moment in the education sector. This ambitious initiative seeks to elevate the competence of these educators in the domains of English language and Mathematics, simultaneously refining their teaching techniques. The program’s inception took place at the esteemed Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic in Birnin Kebbi, with Governor Nasir Idris taking charge of the inaugural proceedings.
During the ceremony, Governor Nasir Idris stressed the determination of his administration to completely transform the educational panorama of Kebbi State. He urged teachers, parents, and other stakeholders to come together and work collaboratively to drive the sector towards progress. Additionally, he made a solemn promise to prioritize the welfare of teachers and provide assistance to the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment. He articulated his vision to align the initiative’s efforts with society’s requirements in a more efficient manner.
The entire program will last for a duration of two weeks.
Prof. Suleiman Khalid, the Chairman of the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), will lead the comprehensive training program that is divided into six sections. With each section accommodating 400 participants, the entire program will last for a duration of two weeks. The primary objective of the curriculum is to see to the enhancement of the knowledge and teaching techniques of the educators, with a specific focus on improving their grasp of key subjects.
Dr. Usman Sani-Tunga, the Rector of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, expressed his appreciation for the bold and forward-thinking approach of the government. He emphasized the importance of ongoing teacher training as a catalyst for the advancement of the education sector. Furthermore, during the intensive five-day training session, Alhaji Hassan Umar, the current acting chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), emphasized the paramount importance for Kebbi to fully embrace the quality assurance program when structuring its foundational education system. In Kebbi State, the quality assurance officers from both the state and local government are undergoing an extensive five-day capacity training. This training, marks the third stage of the program, is aimed at enhancing their skills and knowledge. Umar emphasized that education revolves around an input-output mechanism.
