Brad Winderbaum confirms anticipated Disney+ series, Okoye has been cancelled.
Marvel Studios has officially cancelled the planned Black Panther spin-off centred on Danai Gurira’s Okoye. Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, confirmed the decision while speaking with Pay or Wait during promotions for Daredevil: Born Again. Gurira first appeared as Okoye, the leader of the Dora Milaje, in Black Panther (2018) and reprised her role in several MCU films, including Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The spin-off was initially announced in 2021 as part of director Ryan Coogler’s overall television deal with Disney. Despite the cancellation, Winderbaum assured fans that Okoye would return in the MCU, though not in a TV series. His comments come just months before another Black Panther series is set to premiere on Disney+, keeping the Wakandan legacy alive in Marvel’s expanding universe.
Brad Winderbaum has confirmed that the Disney+ ‘OKOYE’ series is canceled:
“I think fans of Okoye are going to be excited to see her come back, but I don't think it's going to be in a television show. I can't say where and when, but I think there's a lot to look forward to.”… pic.twitter.com/DxCZJH0FbZ
